Hunting

The forests constituting approx. 35% of the Westpomeranian Region area provide excellent conditions for leisure and recreation. Primeval and coniferous forests, copses, wide meadows and reeds are the habitat for many species of game. With, i.a., moose, deer, roe, boar, fox, hare, wild rabbit, pheasant, partridge, wild geese, wild duck, coot. There are over 200 hunting circles in the region, and the hunts organised by these are part of the normal hunting economy and care for the game’s overall condition. Hunting can be carried out individually or in groups, and any person intending to do so must first obtain a permit and declare it to the gamekeeper of the particular area. Specialised departments organise hunts by foreigners.

Large forest complexes owe their good condition to their administrators, who make it possible for you to go for walks, or pick mushrooms and forest fruit of unique taste and smell, and for the hunters to hunt. Hunting is not some random sport created in order to kill defenceless animals, but rather to care for the forests and the condition of the game that inhabits them. Hunting is a form of protecting nature and adjusting the population of wild animals to their environment.

For years, mass hunting has been taking place on the forest earths,

which facilitate hunting both big and small game (boar, fox, hare, pheasant). The deer include moose, stag, fallow deer and roe. Both individual and group hunts are allowed for this game, except for roe. Individual hunting includes stalking, look-out, drive-by and decoy. In group hunting, there are quiet-drive, and big-game hunting.

The hunts are subject to the specific rules and regulations of the hunting law. They are organised in autumn and winter. Often they are not only an opportunity for killing the game but also social events with hunting feasts. Before its commencement, the leader of the hunt makes a list of beaters and huntsmen and informs about the hunting conditions. After the hunt, each cull is registered.
